An Introduction to Beamish Food Online

I started working at Beamish in March 2015 but the groundwork for this blog started long before that. Being the unique combination of an obsessive foodie and full-on Beamish nerd will hopefully result in some great blog posts that I hope you enjoy reading, almost as much as I have enjoyed scoffing edible treats in the name of research!

Although I mainly work in Herron’s Bakery and The Sun Inn in our 1900’s Town (please come and say hello if you’re visiting!) my hunger stretches way beyond, to delicious beef dripping fish and chips from Davy’s to moreish sweets in the Jubilee Sweet Shop, incidentally Callum’s hand-made raspberry drops are my favourite!

The museum is my muse and has provided me with the inspiration to write about really varied topics, from insider information from around the museum, (I have found providing cake gets me in where a draught wouldn’t) from the historical recipe books that have been lovingly gathered over the years, to the beautiful items that have been gratefully received, from old businesses, grandmothers’ attics and the recesses of many a cupboard.

Another great resource that I will take full advantage of is our loyal and extremely well-loved visitors, I will regularly post questions and topics for discussion that can be explored in later posts, after all we are a museum of the people of the North East and this blog will definitely reflect that. From the origins of the stottie to your family favourite recipes, no foodie stone will be left unturned!
